Transformation, Innovation and Inspiration are the foundations of the ‘Building for the Future’ plans at WGS.
As part of the plans that were announced in March 2019, ‘Building for the Future’, we are excited to announce that phase 1 and 2 of the building work at WGS has now been completed. These forward thinking and innovative plans have far-reaching benefits for pupils across the School.
The plans included developing new Creative Hubs which mean pupils benefit from having a focused academic/creative environment that utilise the expertise of specialist teaching staff and resources. The development of the 6th Form centre and International Boarding House are also on schedule to start in the coming weeks.
Phase 1 Music hub
The plan to transform the old geography rooms has certainly paid off. The newly designed space has become the music hub and offers pupils a modern, spacious and light environment to be inspired and creative. “The new classrooms are a fantastic space for teaching and motivating our pupils and the light and space in the room has made a real difference”. Jane Missin, Head of Music
Phase 2 Humanities hub
The Humanities hub has now been completed and the space has been transformed to become a creative learning hub for all pupils to thrive in. The rooms are bright and light, and offer pupils a positive space where they can enjoy exploring and learning about History, Geography and Religious Studies.
Both areas include the space being designed around the Harkness method of teaching. This involves 12-14 pupils seated around a large oval table which encourages pupils to discuss ideas, work collaboratively and shifts the focus away from the more traditional, teacher at the front of the class, approach.
