Smiles all Round at The Big Picnic in the Park Smiles all Round at The Big Picnic in the Park

A new community group, Love Weston hosted their first event on Sunday 8 September, The Big Picnic in the Park and opened up Weston Playing Fields for a fun filled family day for local residents and guests.

The field was filled with activities including face painting, tug-o-war, bouncy castles, rock painting, vehicle displays and more. One of the most popular activities was the ‘Welly Wanging’ competition and Nicky Clarkson proudly took home the trophy of the 1st Weston Welly Wanging Champion. Nicky threw an impressive 36metres. This is going to be an annual accolade to win, so make sure you’re practicing for 2020, or will Nicky retain his title?

Local resident Anna Davies commented; “Congratulations to the organisers of Weston Village fete. It was wonderful to see the people of Weston enjoying being a community again. The event was a great success. Well done!”

The Children’s Zone proved extremely popular with the launch of Weston Rocks, children have painted and hidden rocks around the village. If you find one you are encourage to share them on their facebook page Love Where you Live in Weston PE12 and then re-hide for others to find.

Committee Chairman, Hayley Hammond expressed her thanks for all the help they have had “We have been overwhelmed with the positive comments about the event and we were pleased to see so many people make the effort to support us. We were donated so many raffle and tombola prizes, it was amazing. The cakes and savouries were a hit, we expected to have some left over but they sold out by 3pm! Thanks must go to our business sponsors who put their hands in their pockets to support us and finally I would like to extend the biggest thanks to our dedicated committee members who have spent the last 6 weeks tirelessly pulling this together, there have been late nights and early mornings but it was all worth it”.

The committee have plans afoot for more events in the village around Halloween and Christmas so make sure you follow their group on facebook to keep up to date with what is happening – Love Where You Live in Weston PE12.
